I don't speak English!
We demand basic English skills from our players so we all understand each other. However the FAQ have been translated to some languages, to see them visit the Translations Forum.
I'm new! How do I join?
To become an evo player, you need to get two accounts - a player account and a forum account. The player account allows you to report the games that you played on the website, with the forum account you can post in our forums to discuss with other players and sign up for leagues and tournaments.
For the forum account, click on 'Register' on the Forum index page and fill in the form. You will get a notification email to the address you entered as soon as your forum account is active.
To sign up for a player account, click the 'Sign up' link in the main menu or simply click HERE. Read the instructions and send an email to the address shown there. When we read your email we will send you an invitation email with a link to a form. When you filled in this form, we check your details and activate your player account.
Why two accounts for website and forum?
So why are the player and forum accounts separated? We have forum users that retired or never even played on evo-league, but like to discuss in our forums anyway. It also gives new or banned players the chance to write in the forum already without a player account.
Couldn't you make this more simple?
The sign-up process may seem a bit complicated at first, but it makes sure we get players who really mean to play and who can understand and write basic English. We don't think it's asking for much to send us a short email. For a fair competition, we try to make sure the same player can not sign up for more than one account, so we perform some checks before we finally activate your account.
Ok, I've got my accounts. What do I do now?
First of all, make sure you have read the Rules page. Most of your questions may have already been answered there. To get a game, join the evo-league chat and ask someone for a game. To join leagues or tournaments, check the forums to see if there are free spots available.
If you have problems using the chat, please read our Chat tutorial posted in the forum. If that still doesn't get you further, post a message in the Chat help thread.
Ladders? Leagues? Tournaments? I'm confused!
evo-league.com has three main areas where games are played. The ladders are where the most games are played, they are always open and you can play (almost) as often as you want. The national leagues and tournaments are special events that are held periodically. When a league or tournament starts and players are needed, a sign-up thread will be opened in the forum - so be sure to check it often!
How do the ladders work?
The ladders are our main standings tables to see how good each player is. The good thing about the ladder is that you can play all other players, there are no fixtures. You can play often, occasionally or you cannot play at all for a while - it does not interfere with other players.
Every game that is reported by the game winner through the 'Report Game' function in the main menu will change the amount of points a player has. If you play against a player with many points, you can win or lose many points - if you play someone with few points, you can win or lose not that many points. When a season ends (usually at the end of the month) the top six players of each ladder get awards that show up in their profiles and all scores are reset.
More detailed information about the ladder can be found on our Rules page. Be sure you have read and understood these rules before playing any games.
How do the national leagues work?
The national leagues resemble real leagues like the English Premier League or La Liga. Each of the teams is played by an evo-league player. Like in a real league, you play each other team once in the first half of the season, then you play them all again in the second half of the season. The current league table appears on the Leagues page, game results are to be reported in the associated Forums.
Like in the real leagues, there's usually a league cup played during the season. It is played by the teams and players that already play in this national league.
How do the tournaments work?
We have all kinds of tournaments with different rules and modes, using club teams, national teams or both. Tournaments are organised by evo-league administrators, moderators or normal players. All tournaments are managed through the tournament forums, there you can sign-up when tournaments start or as a replacement in case someone drops out. The latest info on all tournaments is on the Tournaments page.
How do I get to know the league players?
To meet and get to know other players, meet them in the evo-league chat and our forums. Tell us a little about yourself by posting in our Introduction thread! If you want to know where
the players are located, visit the evo-league Frappr, a world map where many of our players entered their location. Don't forget to add yourself!
Some players are calling me unfair! Why?
Even if you follow the rules, some things are still regarded unfair, such as:
- Slide tackles from behind
- Taking advantage of game bugs (eg. the PES5 free kick bug)
- Repetitive in-game messages such as 'lucky goal', 'noob', 'lag lag lag' etc.
- Not kicking the ball out when your opponent flashes the 'pause'-marker
- Leaving lobby and chat instantly after the game
- Reporting late
If you're unsure what may have annoyed your opponent, try to sort it with the player, or post in our forums.
What does the chat offer? Who is EvoBot?
Our chat is located in the IRC network in channel #evo-league on Quakenet. You can join the chat with
your browser by visiting the Chat page or using an IRC client such as mIRC.
One of the 'players' you will
always see in the chat is EvoBot. He's not a player, but a program that can announce a player's profile when someone joins, display the current top players of the ladder,
or run our trivia game. When you're in the chat, simply type !help and EvoBot will give you a list of commands you can enter.
Who runs this league?
Site administrator: Ike
Player administrator: spincer
Moderators: kingofpro, gecko
On hiatus: Stormrider, Adman, runningtings, the-gunner, Atol, urke, Burnzey
I want to help! What can I do?
A helping hand is always welcome! We're planning tournaments, leagues and special events as well trying to develop new ideas. Either post in the forum or contact an admin or moderator to ask them if they need help with anything.
We always need new players as well. If you like evo-league.com, be sure to tell nice players you know or meet online about us, eg. put 'join us at www.evo-league.com' or something similar as one of your chat messsages and show it after a nice game. You could also use
this banner for your signature or posts on other forums.
We'd like to stay independent, and we don't like ads, so you won't find any here. However, running all this costs money of course. We try to cover our costs with voluntary donations from our players, and until now it is working very well. If you wonder whether you should donate, please read our Donation page.
My question is not answered here!
You have read the Rules page already? Ok, then check out our Tutorials forum to see if that helps. If you can't find anything in the forums, post your question in the Help forum, or talk to one of the player administators in the chat or on MSN.
