Rules and Information
1. Introduction
Welcome to evo-league.com, a ladder system for playing Pro Evolution Soccer online. The idea is to provide a simple system where you can register your games played against another member online over PC, PS2 or XBox Live. The good thing is that you can play almost as often as you like, there are no fixtures - and you can sign up anytime!
1.1 Our philosophy
Our goal for the site always was not just to provide another e-sports platform, but a place where fans of the game can play games in a fair and friendly matter. You will find that most players here look for a good game of football rather than doing everything necessary to win their games. We're trying to get the most out of the game, so we supply a bonus for using smaller teams on the ladder and create additional leagues and tournaments to give you the best experience.
For this to work, we demand some effort from our players, be it keeping a friendly tone talking to each other, following deadlines in leagues and tournaments or speaking up in the forums when something appears to be wrong. It should be common sense, but we'll mention it anyway - no form of racism will not be tolerated here. In the end, it's the players who make the site what it is. If that's ok with you, you're very welcome to play here.
1.2 Supported versions

- These games are not supported anymore
1.3 Getting started
To play here, you should have both a site account and a forum account. To get a site account, visit the Sign-Up Page and follow the instructions. To get a forum account, register here. Before you sign up and play, take some time to read this page carefully.
Please note that you can NOT play in this league if you do not understand these rules. If you have questions, please post them in the forum. If you want a quick overview on how things work around here, please read the FAQ.
2. Requirements
2.1 Connection
To play evo-league games, you should have an upload bandwidth of at least 128 kb/s.
2.2 Recommended programs
Screenshot Manager
An easy screenshot tool to capture in-game screens with a keypress. This is useful to have proof when there's confusion after a game, so try to take screenshots of game results and chats of players you don't know well yet.
FRAPS video recorder
A program to record in-game scenes, such as your best goals. Run FRAPS only on replays, never record while the game is running! To find out how to use this properly, read our tutorial in the forum.
2.3 Finding players
By far the easiest way to find a player is using the evo-league chatroom. If you have problems getting the chat to run properly, read our Chat Tutorial which also contains alternatives for connecting to the chat. If you still have problems after reading this, post in the Chat Help Thread.
2.4 Forum registration
The forum of this site is the primary source for all discussions, suggestions and complaints. It's important to check the forums often to see what's happening in the league. If you have problems with a player, the site or you just want to talk about your games or ideas, this is the place to go. Please register for the forums with your evo-league username and check it frequently to see if there are player issues or site updates.
3. Game Rules

It's good etiquette to always offer a rematch. If you don't have time for two games, try to tell your opponent in advance.

3.1 Verifying your opponent's identity
If you're not sure about a player's identity, ask your opponent to refresh the evo-league home page so you can see his username in the 'last online' bar at the bottom of the screen. If the player name is red, the player is inactive and cannot be played against. In the chat, use the !p <name> command to see a players profile info.
Games against users that have not logged in to the site before the game and appeared in the 'last online' bar below may be deleted if there is any doubt.
3.2 First host

The higher ranked player hosts the first game half. The host switches automatically at half time. For a rematch, the host should offer to let the other player host the first half of the rematch.

For 2on2 games, the host doesn't switch at half time, so the team who hosted the first match should always allow a rematch where the other team can host.

3.3 Game settings
  1. Game length - 10 minutes
  2. Form arrows - Green
  3. Weather - Fine
  4. Extra time - No
  5. Penalties - No
3.4 Altering game settings
All game settings except the game length can be changed if both players agree to that before the game. If you see the host chose wrong form arrows, point him to the rules and ask for the game to be restarted. When you're already in the game, this is not a valid reason to quit.
3.5 Disconnections
It can always happen that you suddenly get disconnected from the other player. If this happens, give your opponent at least 20 minutes to come back to you and then politely ask what happened. If he doesn't come back, do not report the game but post the issue in the Player and Reporting Issues forum.
3.6 Resuming the game
Agree with your opponent on how much game time was left before you were disconnected and play this remaining time in a new match. If the restart means an advantage for a player (eg. red cards), mention this in the game comment or the forum.
3.7 Game Limits
You can currently play a maximum of 25 games a day and 10 games against the same player. Game started right before the season end do not count when reported in the new season. Games cannot be reported after the day they were played.
3.8 Game Modifications
We currently do not allow players to use game modifications such as roster patches to play league games. Patches that only change the appearance of the game are allowed, but pay attention that it does not cause problems for the other player (eg. same kit colors). Players not following this may receive a warning and/or a ban.
4. After the game
4.1 Reporting your games
The winner submits the game result(s) by using the Report Game menu item. Be sure to always keep your reports in the order of how the games were played. If your opponent won the first game, wait until he reported his win.
4.2 Complaints
Complaints usually mean someone submitted a game that was never played or not properly finished. If someone reported a supposedly false game or you have other problems with a game, post a new thread in the Player and Reporting Issues forum. Do NOT report a game against someone that you never played, even when your opponent reported a false game against you.
To ensure you will be notified of your played games, enable games notification by email in your profile and provide a valid email address.
Only contact the admins directly if you posted in the forum already and had no reply for a day. Ask your opponent to post a reaction there. It's much easier for us to handle issues on the forums where we can hear both sides of the story.
5. Lag issues
Unfortunately, lag is always a part of this game. You will only experience lag when playing as client, and the further away your opponent is the more lag you will have. Remember we all have the problem, so only complain when it's reasonably worse than it usually is.
If you want to find out how much the game will probably lag before you play, you can try to ping your opponent before the game. To do this in Windows, use the ping command in a dos box. To open one, select Start -> 'Run...' and run 'cmd'. This should run c:\windows\system32\cmd.exe. In the box, type ping <opponent_ip>, eg. ping 123.123.123.123.
A ping latency of up to 150 ms is considered playable, above 200 it becomes hard to play. An easy way to find out your IP is visiting IPChicken.com. For a more advanced ping tool, read our Visual Ping Tutorial on the forums.
5.1 Connection
Your upload bandwidth can affect the lag for your opponent, but more important than the bandwidth is the latency. When you host, close all internet applications that may consume bandwidth and increase latency, especially p2p software. Running the chat or an instant messenger is usually not a problem, but when your opponents complain about lag, try to turn them off too.
5.2 Quitting
When the lag is really bad, you can quit the game in the first 15 in-game minutes after notifying the other player in the in-game chat, but only if your opponent does not lead with more than one goal. If you see a player requesting a pause (flashing the pause icon) early in the game, it's usually fair to kick the ball out.
When the lag is really bad on your client half and it's the second half, try to resolve the issue with your opponent, otherwise post in the forum.
6. Point calculation
The point system used is derived from the RA2 Ladder system and has been altered to supply a good measurement of player skills while keeping the ladder exciting and attractive to all groups of players. If you're interested how it works exactly browse the site update forums, especially the v5.0 update and newer update threads. If you have questions, post them there.
7. Seasons
Every month a new season starts, meaning the scores will be reset. At the end of a season, the top three players of each ladder will get a gold, silver or bronze cup added to their player information. The players ranked 4-6 will recieve gold, silver and bronze medals.

Only active (= not disabled) players will be taken into account. You can see a player's previous season ranks and merits by clicking 'player history' on his profile page.
8. Inactivity
8.1 Setting yourself inactive
You can set yourself inactive in your profile when you do not want to play for a while (eg. holidays). All your profile and games information will remain in the database, but you will not be visible in the players list and standings table.
Note that you cannot reactivate yourself, please post in the Activation Thread with your username to get reactivated.
8.2 Automatic passivation
If you do not play any games for 15 weeks, your account will be disabled automatically. If you want to be activated again, simply post in the Activation Thread. Signing up for a new account is NOT allowed and may lead to a ban!
9. Warnings and Bans
If there are problems with your account but there's no need for a ban yet, you will receive a yellow card. You should check out the forum to find out the reasons so we can discuss this to solve the problem. If you're banned, a red card will show in your profile along with the reason for your ban. Click the reason to get more detailed info in the forum and what to do about it. You can see all active and past warnings and bans on our Warning Cards page (it's a submenu in Info).
A ban can mean disabling your account, blocking your IP or even your host so you cannot access the site anymore at all. Everything that's against the fair play idea can result in a ban, but these are the main reasons.
9.1 Signing up multiple accounts
A player can only have one player account. If you sign up multiple accounts, you will be banned. Note that you cannot sign up more than one player from the same computer or LAN.
9.2 Disconnecting games
Do not disconnect from your games, even if you are 0-5 behind. Be a fair player, and a fair loser.
9.3 Reporting false games
Never report games you never played. Only games played in a server lobby are valid, you cannot report games you played at home with a friend or in a LAN. False reporting also includes posting a result without playing the rematch, unless your opponent refuses to play it. If this happens, mention it in the game comment.
9.4 Ignoring complaints
Every league player should be registered for the forums and check them frequently. If you do not bother going there to check what's going on, you may miss important discussions or complaints against you. When someone posts that you're a cheater and you never reply, it doesn't look good.
9.5 Not understanding the rules
The rules are here to allow a nice smooth game for all players. It is vital to know and understand these rules before playing any games. Players that can't be bothered to read them or use a translator page to find out what it means simply cannot play here. I wish I could translate them into a lot of different languages, but I can't. If someone is willing to do a translation and help the community, post in the forum.
10. Conclusion
These are a lot of rules, and they should be followed. However remember that we're all just playing for fun, you cannot win any money or prizes, but you can meet fellow PES/WE players from all over the world. So follow the rules please that we all get along well, but be polite to fellow gamers and don't take it all too serious. Computer gaming is not everything.
A big thanks to Peter Hendrix for his webleague module. There's not too much left of it in the current evo-league version, but it's a great basic php ladder module to start with. If you use his stuff, please leave a note somewhere on your site and don't just pretend it's all yours, like I've seen some sites do.
Many thanks to my staff, without you guys running this wouldn't be possible. Thanks to Shodan for designing the logo, NokYA for the spanish translation of the rules and the nice people that already donated to evo-league to keep it up and running.
